The Diploma of Business (Operations) will equip you with specialist knowledge in coordinating business projects.

You will learn to lead teams, identify marketing opportunities, develop administrative systems and manage budgets and financial plans. Your coursework will take you through the development of business plans and the management of business resources.

By the time you graduate, you will have strong critical and creative thinking skills and the confidence to actively engage with the management of an organisation.

Please note: If you complete the Course in Introductory Skills within six months, you gain automatic entry into the diploma. You will have two years from enrolment to complete the remaining units of the diploma. You are required to be self-directed in your learning and complete your coursework at a reasonable progression, so you can earn your qualification within this timeframe.

  • Manage meetings: Gain the skills required to manage a range of meetings, including overseeing the meeting preparation processes and chairing meetings.
  • Develop workplace policies and procedures for sustainability: Learn how to develop and implement workplace sustainability policies and modify the policy to suit changed circumstances. ‘Sustainability’ refers to an approach that focuses on the minimisation of an organisation’s social, economic and environmental impact.
  • Manage budgets and financial plans: Develop skills and knowledge required to undertake financial management in an organisation. This includes planning and implementing financial management approaches, and supporting and evaluating effectiveness of financial management processes.
  • Develop business plans: Learn how to produce consistent documents and templates that meet your company’s requirements.

Your course structure

The Diploma of Business (Operations) (BSB50120) consists of 12 units, including three Introductory Business Skills units and nine Diploma of Business (Operations) units.

This diploma requires that you first complete three units in Introductory Business Skills to develop your foundational skills and knowledge. With the Introductory Skills Course complete, you gain automatic entry into the diploma.

This course includes both graded (scored between 50–100) and ungraded (Competent or Not Yet Competent) units. Where grading is applied, this occurs over and above the determination of competency. The inclusion of grading occurs to allow articulation into higher education programs.

Entry requirements

To ensure you have the best chance of successfully completing your diploma, you may enter this course if you meet any of the below criteria:

  • Hold a Year 12 Certificate of Completion
  • Completion of a Cert IV or above in any field
  • Can demonstrate relevant work experience and meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements to study at the diploma level.

However, in some cases, you will be notified via your student email that you will need to buy specific software or eTexts. For TAFE Business students, all of your learning materials will be available online and are covered by your course fees. You won’t need to purchase any further materials.
