Humans of Swinburne Online: Marisa’s Story

Marisa in her classroom

Shaping future generations is no easy task, but Marisa was born to teach. Passionate, ambitious, and with a strong work ethic, Marisa studied a Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching at Swinburne Online. And now her career has never been better.

So come with us as we find out a little bit more about her experience studying at Swinburne Online. And hopefully her journey will inspire a few potential teachers to follow their passion.

A true passion for teaching.

Ever since Marisa was young, she always knew she wanted to become a teacher. In fact, she first stepped into the world of early education over sixteen years ago – when she was in high school! As soon as high school was over, the first thing she did was kickstart her early childhood education journey by stepping into higher education.

What Marisa loves most about working with children is that plays a crucial role in their growth and development. It’s massively rewarding. And Swinburne Online has supported her through this, to ensure she’s providing the youngsters with the best care and attention possible.

What did she gain?

With confidence, skills, and an opportunity to make a real impact on children’s lives, Marisa’s time at Swinburne Online was invaluable. From pedagogical knowledge and curriculum planning to classroom management and child health and safety, Marisa was given the essential tools to create a nurturing environment for young children.

And of course, studying online made her life so much easier. Marisa enjoyed the flexibility Swinburne Online gave her. She was able to continue with her day-to-day job, come home, and study whenever she liked. It was the perfect balance.

Why Swinburne Online?

The first thing that caught Marisa’s eye was Swinburne Online prepares students for the classroom and in a teaching role in just twelve months. Unlike a Bachelor of education which would take at least five or six years –she decided early on it wasn’t for her.

To put that into perspective, she could move from an educator to a qualified early childhood teacher in just a single year. What’s not to like?

And that’s not all. Swinburne Online gave Marisa real-world opportunities to prepare her for the classroom. From teaching literacy and numeracy to creative arts and science, she got a taste of everything. Even better, she completed her placement at her own workplace, allowing her to put her new skills to the test in an environment she was familiar with.

Marisa’s words of wisdom

For anyone who’s interested in following a similar path to Marisa, here’s her advice to you…

Do the extra study. It’s so rewarding to be part of a young person’s learning. The first five years are the most important years of a child’s life and to play a role in their lives during that time is a huge privilege.

If Marisa can do it – so can you! Whether you’re looking to take your skills to the next level or open doors to new opportunities in your career, Swinburne Online is the place to do that. She goes on to say…

My advice to anyone else that’s thinking of taking this course is do it. This is the course for you!
