Humans of Swinburne Online: Annabelle’s Story

Annabelle sitting in the audience seats

In the world of theatre and performance, it’s often said that all great acting is reacting. And we think that perfectly encapsulates our next ambitious student, Annabelle Radford. She studied graphic design at Swinburne Online. And now her career has gone from strength to strength.

So we had a quick chat with Annabelle. We asked her about her time at Swinburne Online, what she gained, and the impact it had on her life. Come with us as we find out more about her experience.

An actor’s life for Annabelle

Annabelle is a naturally gifted creative person. And the signs were there from an early age. Whether it was delighting audiences with her acting or dancing, she simply had to jump on a stage and perform.

At university, for her post-graduate degree, she joined a musical theatre society too. She just couldn’t get enough! And it didn’t stop there either. For nearly two years, Annabelle even gave being a clown and comedian a go.

Graphic Design: The Origin

There are three things that Annabelle loves in life. 1. Being creative. 2. The theatre. 3. Learning new things. And Graphic Design at Swinburne Online allowed her to do all three. It was the perfect outlet for her creativity, love for the theatre, and ambition, allowing her to design things related to what she loves the most.

But why Swinburne Online?

Instead, they nurtured Annabelle’s creativity. By pushing her boundaries, challenging her thinking, and giving her confidence in her work, she was able to take her creative skills to the next level. She says…

The teaching team at Swinburne Online helped me express my creativity by just trying to push me a little bit further and challenge my thinking a little bit.

And our OLAs were there to help too, answering any questions she might have no matter how big or small. This made a huge difference to Annabelle’s university life. By simply being comfortable in her learning environment, she felt more positive, giving her a strong foundation for success.

When an opportunity presents itself…

Annabelle’s first graphic design gig came from out of nowhere. Her friend was directing a performance and needed someone to design promotional materials. So, she raised her hand and stepped up. Her dream career in graphic design was becoming a reality! And she loves it. She says…

‘I think my first sort of performing arts gig, a friend was directing it, and he had a call out for someone to do the graphic design for it. I put my hand up, and I just really loved it.
