How To Record and Share Your Audio On Soundcloud

Recording Audio

You can use SoundCloud to record audio directly through your web browser, or you can upload a file you’ve already recorded and saved on your computer.

Once you’re logged in, click Upload on the toolbar at the top of any page in SoundCloud.

If you signed up with your email address, you won’t be able to upload or record until you’ve confirmed your email address. If you see a message on this page asking you to confirm your email address, you need to log in to your email and click the link in the email you received from SoundCloud when you signed up. If you continue to see this message even though you’ve confirmed your email, click Check your email settings and try adding (and confirming) a second email address.

Recording audio on SoundCloud

You can record audio directly into SoundCloud and share it with others. Before you can do this, you need to have a microphone connected to your computer. Many computers will have an internal microphone, but if you don’t have one (or if the quality isn’t good enough), you might need to plug in an external microphone.

1.     On any page in SoundCloud, click the Upload button at the top of the screen. The Upload to SoundCloud page appears.

2.     Click Start new recording.

3.     On the classic-look SoundCloud page that appears, click Rec.

4.     A popup appears, asking you to give permission to SoundCloud to access your microphone. Click Allow.

Note that this might also appear as a bar at the top of your browser.

5.     Click Rec again. Your recording starts.

6.     Make your recording, for example by talking into your computer’s microphone.

7.     When you’re done, click the stop button.

8.     Click the play button to listen to what you just recorded. If you’re not happy with it, you can click Start over to delete the last recording and start again.

9.     When you’re happy with your recording, click Upload your recording.

An Info section appears, where you can enter the details of your track.

10.     In the Title field, change the default title to something more descriptive.

You can add more details in the Description field, if you want.

11.     Click Upload image if you want to upload an image that will be displayed alongside your track within SoundCloud and when you embed it on other websites. You’ll need to have the image saved on your computer.

12.     In the Genre field, type the name of a genre that describes your track.

13.     In the Tags field, type some words that describe your track, separated by spaces.

14.     In the Settings section, choose whether you want your track to be Public or Private.

If you choose Public, other users will be able to search for your track and it will appear on your SoundCloud profile page. If you choose Private, people will only be able to find your track if they have a link to it (for example, if you shared it with them, or embedded it on another website).

15.     If you want, click Advanced settings and make any changes to the way your track can be shared and played. By default, these are set as follows:

·          Downloads disabled – prevents anyone from downloading your audio track and saving it on their computer.

·          Display embed code publicly – allows anyone who visits your track’s page to see and copy the code to embed your track on other sites. This makes it easy for other people to share your track. If you want to control where your track is shared, you can disable this option.

·          Apps enabled – allows your track to be played on other websites, outside the SoundCloud website and apps. If you disable this option, you won’t be able to embed your audio track on other websites, and you’ll have to send people to your track’s page in SoundCloud.

16.     If you want to share your track on social media, tick the box to post to Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr, and add a message in the field.

You might need to log in to these websites if they’re not already connected to your SoundCloud account.

17.     Click Save. Your track’s page appears.
