About this unit

This unit enhances the student’s ability to develop a solid understanding of both recording transactions through manual and computer systems and of the main accounting reports that are the output from accounting systems.

It also aims to provide students with the skills and techniques to analyse and interpret accounting information together with the expertise to recognise and select financial information relevant to particular business and financial decisions.

Content

  • Apply advanced principles of accrual based accounting to a given transaction data set to prepare a set of financial reports using computerized software.
  • Critically analyse and interpret financial reports; and calculate ratios in order to make meaningful comparisons between businesses and to analyse a business’ performance from year to year.
  • Apply problem solving methodologies to select financial information (both financial and non-financial) that is relevant to particular business decisions.
  • Communicate proficiently and in a professional context and work effectively as a member of a team.
