Online business student combines study with travel

Talented actress, model and world traveller Gizelle Basiri manages to find the time to study her Bachelor of Business with a Major in Marketing in the midst of all her adventure. We caught up with Gizelle to chat all things online study and travel.

Gizelle began her study journey on campus completing a double degree of Civil Engineering and Business. After travelling to Canada on exchange for six months and following that with two months of volunteering in Africa, Gizelle decided to switch to online study to better suit her lifestyle.

At the time I had no idea that Swinburne had an option to study online, and so I decided to look into it. I thought, this would mean I can get my degree while I continue to work towards my career, have a job, AND travel - all four at once!

Gizelle commenced her Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree with Swinburne Online in 2016, choosing marketing after enjoying business subjects she completed while in Canada on exchange.

“I chose marketing as it is a subject that has always interested me,”Gizelle says.

Before Gizelle started studying online, she was working full time in a sales position, and part-time as an actress and model. You may have even caught a glimpse of our resident superstar on Neighbours!

“Studying online, meant that I could continue working and I wouldn't have to sacrifice anything in order to progress in my education,”she says.

During her time studying marketing with Swinburne Online, Gizelle has travelled to America, Thailand, Laos, Qatar and Dubai, with plans to go to India before coming home for graduation in August.

The best part about studying online and travelling is the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. I was able to study while working full-time in Melbourne, and even study while I've been working full-time in another country!”

“It allows you to work towards your degree at your own pace and in your own time, all you need is your laptop and wifi. I've worked on assignments while on flights, in airports, in cafe's around the world, by pool-sides, in mountains and deserts, and it is such an amazing experience.”

After graduation, Gizelle hopes to get a job in marketing back home in Melbourne, but who knows where life will take this traveling superstar! You can follow all of Gizelle’s adventures via her travel Instagram account.
