“Originally I was working full time straight out of high school, it wasn’t until about five years later that I considered further study.
“The Diploma of Business was intended to help me fast track any future career that I may decide on doing. Being online, the course started at the right time and was a convenient way of gaining a qualification,” he says.
Victorian local Jordan currently works full time on the NBN project as part of the Telecommunications Civil Crew and says although studying and working at the same time was a juggle, his education goals kept him motivated.
“Due to longer hours and physically demanding work, it was a challenge at times to put time towards studies. Motivation was a large factor in completing the diploma quicker.
“I hope to continue on with studies, either online or full-time study to either do a bachelor or business or bachelor of computer science.”
All Swinburne Online TAFE courses are delivered via MyQuest, a bespoke learning management system where students manage their course, receive study support and connect with other students via live chat, webinars and forums.
Twenty-three year old Jordan says MyQuest was accessible and easy to us throughout his studies.
“Studying online using MyQuest surprised me. Initially I was sceptical at the idea because of less physical interaction, however the fact that I had access to chat, phone and email facilities with quick replies meant that my studies were not affected.
“Two highlights would be receiving my grade marks after getting an assessment marked that I spent considerable time on and also the webinar sessions were helpful for interaction.”
Jordan hopes to pathway to a Bachelor degree in the future but for now is using his new skills in his current line of work.
“I can honestly say I would encourage others to pursue an option such as this. If convenience is a priority, then this is your best option. Especially since business is such a versatile course to use in almost any industry.”
