Five tips to improve your productivity

We all know that getting organised helps get things done, but actually getting organised is half the challenge. There’s lots of great apps around now to help you on this journey, but one that is particularly good for those juggling work, life and study commitments is Evernote.

Here are five handy hints to help you get the most out of Evernote:

1. Create a virtual binder

Evernote has a great function called ‘stacks’ which allows you to keep your materials in order. Think of notebook stacks as physical binders that can be sorted into sub-stacks.

For instance, a research notebook stack could include sub stacks like ‘initial ideas’, ‘thought processes’, ‘important information’ and ‘references’.

A great time to use stacks is when you’re developing your assessment folio. You can also use Evernote’s list, objective and goal setting functions to ensure that you keep on-top of all the work.

2. Collect and collate new ideas and information

Evernote’s Web Clipper tool allows you to capture and order screenshots, articles or highlight quotes from across the internet. You can also make and save comments that correspond to the information you’ve captured along the way.

The Web Clipper tool can also be used to keep other parts of your life organised. Try using it to create shopping lists, recipe files or collate design inspiration and ideas that you might want to record and share with friends or family.

3. Get rid of the junk

Evernote has a great function called ‘Evernote Clearly’ that allows you to remove all ads, links and content-filled side bars  leaving you with what matters most - the content. All images, links and other media within the body of the content remains accessible and in an easy to read format.

4. Share your research with others

Collaborating with others on a project? Evernote allows you to share Notebooks and stacks with your classmates, allowing an easy way to share ideas, notes and project progress within your group.

It’s another great one to help you stay organised in your home life too by sharing tasks, shopping or grocery lists with your friends and family members. As items are “checked off”, the lists are automatically updated for all to see.

5. Never lose sight of your latest big idea

The beauty of Evernote is that it runs and synchronises seamlessly across your laptop, mobile, desktop and tablet allowing you to capture and save new thoughts or pieces of information when you’re on the go.

It also means that this information is always at your fingertips, eliminating the need to carry around binders full of scribbled notes.

Evernote is more than just an excellent study tool, its functions, usability and easy access make it a perfect accompaniment for the busy employee, entrepreneur or parent wanting to keep a close and organised track on their lives.
