Doing it all: Tips for women in business

Megan Cavigan March 07, 2019

On International Women’s Day 2019, we’re celebrating women who study online.

Meet Lutfiye: a Swinburne Online graduate, who founded Astara Creative – an integrated marketing agency for women – in 2013, and went on to launch her second business, The Vault & Co late-2018.

Lutfiye spoke with us about how she pushed through self-doubt to build two successful businesses, sharing her top three business tips:

  1. Know your target market

An essential for any business and industry is to know your target market and to know them well. Lutfiye advises to find out “what makes them tick”.

  1. Keep your balance

Make sure you find the right balance between “your work time and your family time”. Finding the balance between being a wife, mother, friend and multiple business owner is what makes Lutfiye’s business perspective unique.

  1. Be visible

It’s never too early to be as visible as possible within your industry. Lutfiye challenges business owners to be proactive about collaborating and networking with others. Being visible “helps boost your growth”.

The theme of this year’s IWD campaign is #BalanceforBetter, encouraging collective action towards building a gender-balanced world from all levels of action. Lutfiye is doing her part through her businesses that both champion women and inspire collaboration from all.
